Structural Interpretation in Petroleum Exploration and Development
This course is designed to equip geoscientists with the essential skills and techniques for structural interpretation in the context of petroleum exploration and field development. The course focuses on understanding the structural styles and deformation processes that control trap formation, reservoir distribution, and fluid flow in the subsurface. Participants will learn to interpret faults, folds, fractures, and other structural features using seismic, well, and outcrop data. Emphasis is placed on integrating structural geology principles with seismic interpretation to build accurate structural frameworks and support prospect evaluation, reservoir modeling, and development planning. Real-world case studies and practical exercises provide hands-on experience in solving structural challenges in both extensional and compressional tectonic settings.
What You Will Learn:
1- Structural geology fundamentals
2- Seismic interpretation techniques
3- Structural modeling & integration
By the end of this 5-day course, participants will have a strong understanding of structural geology principles and their practical application in petroleum exploration and development. They will learn to recognize and interpret key structural features such as faults, folds, and fractures using seismic and well data, and understand how these structures influence hydrocarbon trapping and reservoir performance. The course will develop skills in seismic structural interpretation, structural mapping, and the construction of reliable subsurface frameworks. Participants will also gain experience in integrating geological and geophysical data to reduce structural uncertainty and support exploration decisions and reservoir modeling.
The Schedule:
Day 1: Fundamentals of Structural Geology.
Day 2: Fault and Fold Interpretation.
Day 3: Seismic Structural Interpretation Techniques.
Day 4: Structural Modeling and Integration.
Day 5: Applications and Case Studies.
